THE THURROCK Conservatives have reacted with anger over the decision by Thurrock Council to withdraw their subsidy to the 374 bus service.

Conservative Spokesperson for Highways, councillor Sue Little said "Yet again we see Labour-led Thurrock Council are discontinuing bus services that serve the outlining and difficult to reach parts of Thurrock.

"This is the only bus service for Horndon on the Hill and East Tilbury and these rural communities will be losing a vital link to Orsett and Basildon hospitals, the crematorium, Palmers College and Stanford and Grays libraries.

"I am concerned that this will disproportionately affect those who cannot afford to run a car or the elderly who are reliant on their bus pass.

"We are continually told that Labour-led Thurrock Council want to improve education, add years to life and life to years but they are more than happy to cut the only way many can get to college and vital doctors or hospital treatment.

"I am sure everyone affected by this will be asking why are their plans to cut their bus service but none to cut the £10 million a year the Labour-run Council spends on temps and consultations fees.

"Quite frankly they are treating everyone in the rural areas and outlying areas of Thurrock like second class citizens."
