AT the request of Brentwood Council, Thurrock’s chief executive, Graham Farrant, is due to start work there on Monday (2 March) two days a week and says he is “looking forward to the challenge”.
Mr Farrant was a “shared” chief executive with the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham until the end of January, staying in post until a new full-time chief executive started there.
At Barking and Dagenham both authorities shared the costs 50-50 and a similar, pro-rata, scheme will operate with Brentwood.
The agreement with Brentwood is that Mr Farrant will be there in an interim position until the council evaluates its options and is in a position to appoint full-time or decides to maintain the shared situation.
Mr Farrant said: “Both Barking and Dagenham and Thurrock found the shared position useful, financially and with the introduction of an outside perspective as the sharing of a chief executive allows and promotes the sharing of ideas across traditional authority boundaries.
“I am sure the same advantages will accrue over time between Thurrock and Brentwood in the months to come.”
