Letter to Editor: "Stanford is not a blank canvas for developers"

    Dear Editor,

Residents in Wharf Road will be disappointed that the pending Squibb’s application, which was postponed in January, has been delayed again.

I understand that this is owing to some more responses being required from outside agencies, and therefore the application put in front of the Planning Committee would be incomplete; and judgements could be misinformed. This application is too critical to get it wrong. So while I begrudgingly accept the reason to delay, I don’t like the fact we have to.

Further across the ward, specifically on the Victoria Road flood plain, the application is being heard this coming Thursday.

My view on this has not changed since when I first spoke on the 2011 application.

And just like last time, I will be speaking on behalf of the many residents who are against this application. We are of common mind that the local infrastructure cannot take more homes, much less built on a risky flood plain!

While those of us who live in Stanford will recall how we have fought many housing applications, my argument is that Stanford has – very unfortunately – had to accept the lions share of housing development in Thurrock.

The "blank canvass" that many developers seem to think Stanford is, is actually a much loved community, and the developers should go back and think again that we will quiet accept development-on-development in our area.

Cllr Shane Hebb. Conservative Councillor for Stanford West"
