Football: Grays mount impressive comeback against Hampton

Ryman Premier

Grays Athletic 3 v 2 Hampton and Richmond

GRAYS Athletic produced an impressive comeback from 2-0 down to beat Hampton and Richmond 3-2 at Mill Field.

It may have only been in front of 112 fans but this was the type of result that may rekindle interest in the club as they showed real mettle and commitment.

Grays were 2-0 down at half time and looked dead and buried but they picked themselves up in the second half.

James Stevens put away a penalty in the 52nd minute. Player-manager, Mark Bentley equalised in the 66th minute.

But there was more drama to come as Grays’ keeper, Connor Gough was given a red card and conceded a penalty.

Caretaker manager, Bentley picked up the gloves and then saved the penalty!

To put the icing on the cake, Joao Carlos equalised in the 90th minute to cap a fantastic display by the Blues.

Their next game is at home against Leiston at 3pm at Mill Field.
