THE Time for a Cuppa event to support Dementia UK was held in Headon Hall, Stifford Clays on Wednesday 4th March. The fundraiser was organised by Home Instead who provide care to elderly people, allowing them to stay in their homes for as long as possible.
Polly Billington, Labour’s parliamentary candidate in Thurrock, spoke to careers and families supporting people with dementia. She said “It was a lovely event. I spoke to Debbie from Home Instead and Gemma from the Alzheimer’s Society who do great work. By 2021 the number of people living with dementia will increase to 1.1 million. In Britain we have made progress, but dementia research spending is still seven times lower than cancer research."
In the run up to the General Election The Alzheimer’s Society has launched its dementia pledge. The manifesto calls on the next government to take 12 actions to improve the lives of people with dementia.
Polly went on to say, "I’m backing organisations like Dementia UK and support the Alzheimer’s Society election pledges. With an ageing population we must make sure that those with dementia are diagnosed and receive proper care. Families looking after people with dementia need support, understanding and recognition."
