Over a thousand raised for Rotary Race Night for the Sunshine Centre in Tilbury

THE Rotary Club of Thurrock Gateway held its ‘Night at the Races’ event in aid of ‘The Sunshine Centre’ (Tilbury) on Friday 13th March at The Langdon Hills Golf, Country Club & Hotel.

Although competing with ‘Red Nose Day’ events locally, a very generous 70 plus racegoers turned out for this evening meeting of seven Races and even guest of honour the Mayor of Thurrock, cllr Steve Liddiard helped ‘muck out’ between races with Club President Claire Pavitt.

The evenings races were all sponsored by local businesses and all winning owners received a bottle of fine wine.

Midway through the evening a scrumptious supper of Turkey Curry, Lasagne or Vegetable Creamy Pasta was enjoyed by the ‘punters’…(some even went back for seconds!!!)

The finale…The Auction Race raised a total of £125 and in all over £1350 was raised for ‘The Sunshine Centre’ on the evening…which included a mega-raffle…

Club President closed the evening with a ‘Thank you’ to one and all for supporting the race night and also thanked all the club members for their efforts to make the evening such a huge success.

A massive thank you to Steve Greene (Operation’s Manager) and his staff at Langdon Hills for great food and service throughout the evening.

The Rotary Club of Thurrock Gateway meets at The White Hart Inn, Kings Walk, Grays, Essex RM17 6HR on Mondays at 7pm, please pop along and give them a try.
