PUBLIC Services students from South Essex College visited the Olympic Park last week to take part in team building exercises.
The students from the College’s Basildon and Thurrock campuses visited the prestigious site to take advantage of the fantastic tennis and hockey facilities.
The aim of the day was to promote teamwork, communication and fitness, which are all key aspects of the public services curriculum.
The students started the day on the tennis courts where they were given a number of exercises to encourage team work and perfect their racquet skills.
After lunch, the hockey pitch awaited the group. Hand-eye coordination was the aim of the game in the warm up exercises before the group split into two teams for a match.
The students were given top tips by coaches during the sessions.
At the end of the day, the students were treated to a tour of the Olympic Velodrome to find out about the state of the art facility.
Joseph Chambers, 17, from Grays, said: “It was great to get out of the classroom and come to the Olympic Park. The facilities were brilliant and it was a good way for us to put our skills to the test.”
Public Services Lecturer, Jane Clayton, said: “The day enabled the students to work on their teamwork, communication and fitness skills. We are always looking for different and innovative ways to help the students learn and this was no exception.”
