LABOUR politicians have expressed their anger and concern after it was announced that a surgery in Tilbury was set to close.
The surgery at 57 Calcutta Road will be closing at the end of May.
The news comes as health bosses discuss whether to close the walk in service at the Thurrock Health Centre in Grays.
Polly Billington, Labour’s candidate in Thurrock said “With the Tory MP backing the closure of the walk-in service in Grays this latest news is very worrying.
In Thurrock people are waiting longer and longer to see a GP. The proposal to transfer patient care to the Sai Medical Centre will put extra pressure on the service.
People may turn to an already over-stretched A&E. NHS England need to find a long term solution, designed around the needs of residents in Tilbury.”
Ms Billington’s concerns were echoed by local Tilbury councillor, Clare Baldwin.
Cllr Baldwin said: "This will effect hundreds of Tilbury residents. Health issues are a large part of my case work already.
"I will look into this and monitor it closely."
