HOSPITALITY and Catering students showcased their talents to local businesses during employability events at South Essex College’s Waves restaurants.
Both Waves restaurants in Southend and Thurrock hosted an evening of fantastic food and great service for guests from hotels and restaurants in the south Essex area including Waitrose, O’Neils and Premier Inn.
The aim of the evening was for hospitality employers to get to know the College and find out about the catering courses and apprenticeships it offers. It was also to inform students about industry opportunities available to them.
Level 3 Professional Cookery students made canapés and a fine dining three course meal to impress their guests. Level 3 Hospitality students showed off their serving skills by attending to the guests’ every need.
Manjiri Pujari, Curriculum Manager Hospitality & Catering, organised the event. She said: “I think it’s really important to develop links with industry. For the students, this evening was all about networking with potential employers and showing them what they’re capable of.”
James Wilsher works front of house at The Estuary restaurant in Leigh-on-Sea. He said: “It was great to see what students learn these days and I was very impressed with the high standard of food and service. Waves is a nice place to enjoy a meal.”
