Orsett Primary present new equipment for Orsett Hospital

ORSETT C of E Primary School children presented staff from Orsett Hospital with new equipment to improve the Children’s Waiting Area at Orsett Hospital. The School Council had visited the hospital and had seen that there was very little for children to do while waiting for appointments.

They decided that they would hold fund-raising events so that they could buy new equipment for the hospital.

Children from Orsett donated books for a book corner and held a sponsored run to raise the necessary funds. They also contacted the Stanford and Corringham Rotary Club who agreed to support the venture by providing a bookcase for the books to go in.

George Challis, the Chairman of the School Council said, ‘A lot of children at our school put in a lot of hard work to raise money to but the toys and we are really pleased that we have been able to provide things for all ages of children. We hope they enjoy them ‘.

Staff from the hospital attended a presentation at the school and Zena Hayward, Clinical Lead, told the children, that the hospital wanted to say a ‘big thank you for all your hard word – we really appreciate it. Andrew Roast (Stanford and Corringham Rotary Club) added, ‘it is wonderful to have such a positive community link.’

Mrs Godfrey, Headteacher, was absolutely delighted that ‘our school has been able to make a difference to so many children who have to attend the Hospital.’ She added, ‘ We are opposite the hospital so see patients go in and out all day and it is really important for our children that they realise that we can make a difference in a community just by making a little bit of an effort.’
