NHS Thurrock Clinical Commissioning Group, local health leaders, want residents to enjoy good health during the Easter holidays and are offering advice on where to go for health advice if needed.

A key message for patients/carers is for them to stock up on repeat prescriptions during the long Easter bank holiday weekend to ensure they don’t run out. The CCG has published a list of pharmacies and dentists that will be open during the Easter Bank holiday period on their website: www.thurrockccg.nhs.uk

Chair, NHS Thurrock CCG, Dr Anand Deshpande, said: “Those who take regular medication should check if they have enough to last over the bank holiday, and have their prescription renewed in advance if needed. Many GP surgeries have links with pharmacies offering a repeat prescription service, meaning medication can be delivered or collected at your convenience.”

In the event that people feel a bit under the weather, they should call 111. NHS 111 operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Local pharmacists can also help you with minor illnesses before they become more serious, which could prevent you waiting to see your GP or needing a stay in hospital.

You can also make sure that your medicine cabinets is stocked up with basic medication for common ailments such as colds and minor pains which can easily be treated at home, your pharmacist will be able to help you if you do not know what to buy.

Dr Deshpande continued: “We want people to enjoy the Easter bank holiday in good health so please ensure you have ordered your repeat prescriptions if you require them, and remember what to do if you become ill, and it is not a serious or life threatening condition, simply call NHS 111 for help.”
