THERE is a calmness about Stephen Metcalfe’s campaign to be re-elected as the MP for South Basildon and East Thurrock.
In fact, if you look at interviews from five years ago and today, you start to wonder if there is a painting in the Metcalfe attic at home as he doesn’t seem to have aged one bit.
Right, that is the love-in over.
Stephen has a 5,772 majority to defend. It is a bell-weather seat and so one man’s forecast of "Too close to call" is another man’s "Might be a thousand or two votes too many to claw back."
Either way, Stephen Metcalfe is standing on his record. Anyone, who follows his speeches in the House of Commons, will have noted many significant campaigns and defences for the people of SBET.
In many ways, Stephen’s work is best illustrated by his diplomacy over the Lower Dartford Crossing.
We caught up with Stephen at Corringham Town Centre on Friday afternoon to gauge how the campaign was getting on.
