FOLLOWING a chat with some dog walkers in Blackthorn Road Park who were complaining about the litter, community builder Teresa O’Keeffe agreed to help them to organise a litter pick.
So last week in the lovely sunshine a small band of local people set to work cleaning up their local park. With pickers, tabards and bags supplied by Thurrock Council who had cut the grass the week beforehand, the pickers worked all afternoon.
“I even persuaded a young man who was using the park to join us” said Teresa. The young man in question, Adam Harley-Archer aged 17 said that he hated seeing litter and the fact that young people always get the blame, even when it is not them making the mess.
Some of the rubbish included piles of clothes, a mattress and even garden furniture found in the hedgerows. Ali Stanford from Thurrock Council also arranged to have all of the bags and other rubbish collected as soon as the pickers had finished and thanked all of the community volunteers for their hard work.
