West Tilbury WI: May report

    THIS month’s meeting of West Tilbury WI was the AGM, President Margaret Camp introduced Jane Bird visiting Advisory Officer to oversee the meeting.

    Treasurer Liz’ Wakefield gave her details of the accounts, Secretary Lorna Jones read out the yearly report on the WI’s activities and President Margaret Camp gave a speech of thanks to the committee and the group for their work and support in making this such a good year.

    A vote was taken and Joanne Phillips is now the President of West Tilbury WI. Other committee members remain the same.

    Resolution to be put to the Government, to be voted on in June at the NFWI’s AGM at the Royal Albert Hall is ‘Failing to Care’ assessment is needed in long term care a, decision is required to remove the distinction between Nursing Care and Personal Care.’ After much debating members decided that it should be left to the discretion of our Delegate Joanne Phillips . Many felt this was a hard resolution to come to a decision on.

    Jane Bird told the members the history of the anthem Jerusalem sang at the WI meetings

    This was first adopted as their Anthem by the Suffragettes and then the WI, carrying on the tradition of Women’s Independence.

    Members who attended the Spring Group evening enjoyed both the speaker from the Mission to Seamen Andy Malcolm, and also the entertainer actor and impressionist Redge Wheeler.

    An outing has been arranged to the House Of Commons for June 22nd.

    An invitation for The Gang Show on May 30th was received from Orsett WI.

    The winner of the Competition ‘Something from the Sixties’ was Lorna Jones.

    Raffle: Winners were Niki Garwood & Lorna Jones.

    Next meeting at West Tilbury Village Hall is on June 2nd 2015
