Bulphan WI: May report
BULPHAN WI’s May meeting was a combination of Resolution discussion & AGM.
This year’s National resolution is Failing to care – assessment of need in long term care – This meeting calls on HM government to remove the distinction between nursing care and personal care in the assessment of the needs of individuals, in order to advance health and wellbeing.
One of our members who are involved in giving others advice on this and many more subjects gave a presentation of the main points relating to the resolution. Other members who have knowledge of the issues or personal experience of them then put their points across. It was a very interesting discussion on a subject that could affect us all at some time.
Our representative from another Institute, who will vote on behalf of our WI at the National AGM, was present to listen to all the points raised and take the results of the ballot that followed the discussion forward to that meeting.
The other business of the evening was our AGM at which several members of the Committee together with the other ladies who keep the Institute ticking over gave reports of the past year followed by the election of this year’s Committee, which happens to be the same as last year’s so they must be doing something right!
Another event this month is a trip to the Cliffs Pavilion Theatre for a meal followed by a Burlesque Show, this is a follow on from a visit by burlesque star Keri Graham to our Institute earlier this year.
Early in June two of our members will be joining 8000 other WI ladies at Buckingham Palace for a garden party to celebrate 100 years of the WI. It’s going to be a fabulous event, especially as it’s one of their birthdays on the day.
Our meeting on Wednesday 10th June has a visit from a local micro-brewery, maybe with a few beer tastings!
