THERE was many an East Tilbury resident who woke up on Friday May 8th and was very surprised to see that their new councillor was a member of UKIP.
But on May 7th, James Baker defeated independent councillor John Purkiss.
The election return was our most watched film on our youtube channel, attracting even more viewers than the actual General Election announcement.
Over the last week, there has been much discussion about cllr Baker on the Facebook page called Your East Tilbury.
Cllr Baker has now taken the opportunity to introduce himself to the residents via the Facebook page.
Cllr Baker said: "Firstly I’d like to thank everyone for their support and who voted me in this position as a councillor for UKIP in East Tilbury and will do my upmost to address and solve the concerns we are having in our community and will look forward to meeting you.
"I will be inducted on the 20th of May and I can start getting to work and will be issued a council phone, a council Email address and will be able set up a council FB account which anyone can contact me on to address your problems and will do my upmost to get the problem solved and will be setting up surgery meetings at our local library in due cause and you can also send me a personal message on this FB account in the mean time until the 20th which I would be very grateful of".
