STUDENTS at the College’s Thurrock Campus benefitted from an informative insight into the health and beauty industry by professionals from Bannatyne Health Club and Spa in Chafford.
Spa Manager Rhiannon Russell and Assistant Spa Manager Hayley Innes spoke to beauty therapy students, while sports students spoke to Fitness Manager, Paige Foster.
The trio visited the new Thurrock Campus on Thursday to build links between the Health Club and Spa and the College which could provide a clear route for students on a Beauty and Sports course to progress into employment.
Sports students found out about the fitness careers available at Bannatyne Health Club and Spa from Paige, while beauty therapy students did trade tests demonstrating their waxing and massage skills to Rhiannon and Hayley, who then showed the students different techniques used within the industry.
Rhiannon and Hayley gave them a true insight into the commitment that is required to become a Beauty Therapist within a Bannatyne Health Club and Spa and some of the techniques they can use to speed up their treatments whilst still giving great customer care.
These new found skills will prove invaluable when the students are looking to start their career once they leave the College.
One student, 17-year-old Grace Hobby from Grays, said the visit was extremely beneficial.
She said: “It was great to learn skills which are used within the industry. It will really help when starting out as a beauty therapist as we can show we have skills they are looking for. I have already expressed an interest in a position at Bannatyne Health Club and Spa.”
Rhiannon said she was delighted to meet the students.
She said: “I was a student at Thurrock College five years ago so I know exactly what the girls are experiencing at the moment. Students are the future of the industry, so I wanted to come down and see the talent on offer. Hopefully some of them may become beauty therapists at Bannatyne Health Club and Spa in the future.”
REED NCFE will be meeting with Bannatyne Health Club and Spa shortly to see what other employment opportunities are available and how the College can provide the students with career opportunities.
