THURROCK MP Jackie Doyle-Price has again gone on the offensive over the matter of car cruising in Lakeside.

The caustic MP is calling for Thurrock Counci to use its powers and financial resources to change the road layout on the highways that are used by the cruisers.

But before Ms Doyle Price got too fast and too furious, some wag decided to edit her wikipedia page with a paragraph on her alleged driving career.

The offending paragraph has been removed. As JDP does not speak to YT we cannot investigate further whether she was ever a grid girl at the Monaco Grand Prix.

Here is Ms Doyle Price’s statement on her Facebook page.

"The menace of car-cruising at Lakeside is causing increasing misery for Thurrock residents. It is time that this was tackled once and for all and high time that Thurrock Council use its powers to support the very real efforts made by Essex Police to tackle this problem.

The problem has been persisting for many years now. The so called Lakeside GP sees cruisers descend on Lakeside in great numbers. Whilst some are harmlessly showcasing their vehicles, others engage in dangerous driving and anti-social behaviour, often going on into the early hours of the morning. The noise nuisance caused by some of the community causes sleepless nights for many residents. On some nights the noise can be heard in South Ockendon.

Essex Police have been grappling with this issue for many years, but keeping this under control is resource intensive. Their job would be much easier with changes to the road layout and by other measures which are in the gift of Thurrock council and the Highways Agency.

I was pleased to persuade the Highways Agency to effect changes to the Dumbbell roundabout which has made some improvement. What is clear is that it is not enough. It is simply not acceptable to expect people to put up with sleepless nights week in, week out. I expect Thurrock council and the Highways Agency to step up to the plate and put into effect the measures which will deter cruises and lead to financial penalties for those who continue to cause a nuisance.

I want to see speed cameras. These would more than pay for themselves.

Road humps and width restrictions need to be considered.

"Thurrock council should introduce a clearway to enable the police to ticket those who stop to spectate. This has been effective on the stretch of road managed by the Highways Agency".
