INVESTIGATION work in and around the sinkhole which appeared in Hogg Lane, Grays, on Wednesday (27 May) last week continued over the weekend.
Thurrock Council estimates it will take a month to fully repair the road. Further environmental and safety work needs to be completed in the 100-year-old tunnel which is approximately 15 metres below the road surface.
The tunnel itself has to be made safe and secure – and the 200 square metres of rubble from the sinkhole needs to be removed – before back filling can begin and the council needs to be assured the sinkhole itself is stable.
The lorry trapped in Hogg Lane was winched clear on Friday evening by Purfleet-based Albert Recovery.
The road will remain closed to traffic until repairs are complete.
