ON June 1st, Essex Chambers of Commerce welcomed over 100 member businesses to join them for a networking first in Essex, as they took to the rails for lunch and networking on board a special c2c service from Grays station. Although a normal commuter train, as the venue for the popular bimonthly Thoroughly Thurrock networking event, it was unlike most commuter journeys as there was a lot of conversation, exchanging of business cards and a fair amount of laughter too as the train travelled down the coast and back.

Joining the ‘network express’ was guest speaker Julian Drury, Managing Director of c2, who commented, “It was a pleasure to host this event and I was delighted to see so many new businesses there, so many people we did not know.” As well as sharing this unique networking experience, he spoke to the businesses on about developments now being undertaken on the Essex Thameside Service since winning the franchise, including station infrastructure improvements, investment in rolling stock and new technology that will assist passenger journeys.

Also on board were Heart Essex and their Angels, and Orsett Hall, who provided the snack lunch and refreshments.

Denise Rossiter, Chief Executive, Essex Chamber of Commerce commented about the event, “We are all about bringing businesses together at Essex Chambers and this event has proved an extremely successful way to do just that. With some of Essex and Thurrock’s leading businesses on board there have been some excellent business conversations today. Once again Thurrock is the popular destination for businesses and Essex Chambers of Commerce are thrilled to be playing our part in this two years exactly after we opened an office here in Thurrock.”

The next Thoroughly Thurrock returns to its regular twilight time and venue at Orsett Hall on August 3rd staying with a transport theme as will be joined by Crossrail. There will be an opportunity for networking as well as hear from Crossrail who will be talking about both the challenges they faced to build the line as well as the what Crossrail will mean for businesses in Essex and the challenges for business opportunity.
