Man suffers acid burns after chemical attack in Tilbury

    POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man suffered suspected chemical burns in an assault in St Chads Road, Tilbury.

    The 37-year-old victim was in a silver Jaguar parked in a bus layby at about 9.25pm on Saturday, May 30.

    He was involved in a verbal altercation and officers believe a corrosive liquid was thrown at him.

    He has since undergone surgery for his injuries.

    Investigating officer, Pc Charlotte Davis, said: "One man has been arrested and charged in connection with our investigations so far but we believe that other people were involved and we would like to hear from anyone who may have seen this car, what happened or has any other information that could identify further suspects.”

    Witnesses or anyone with information are asked to contact Pc Davis at Grays police station on 101.

    David Guwazah, aged 34, of Dock Road, Grays, was charged with GBH and appeared at Basildon Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, June 2.

    He is next due to appear at Basildon Crown Court on August 10.
