THURROCK Council has pledged to invest more money in cleaning up the borough but has also asked residents to do their bit.

Day after day, residents have pointed to areas of Thurrock that then claim have been either victims of fly-tipping, awash with litter or have grass verges that are knee high.

From Bulphan to Tilbury, Chafford Hundred to Grays High Street, many residents have been highly critical of the council, for what they perceive as a lack of action and investment.

At last night’s cabinet meeting (Wed), council leader, John Kent, admitted that the council had cut "too far and too deep’ into their environment budget and were now counting the cost.

His concerns were echoed by new environment portfolio holder, cllr Gerard Rice, who said he was looking at ways to get the community involved but also said he was looking at introducing fines.
