THURROCK residents have donated hundreds of items to the Grays family left homeless after a fire swept their Salisbury Road home on Tuesday morning.

As YT reported, mum of two, Mel Joseph lost all her possessions in the fire. Not only her own stuff but all her childrens’ items as well.

An appeal was made to help her, with a neighbour volunteering her house in Salisbury Road as the Help Mel HQ.

Our reporter went round to the house on Wednesday night and was left open-mouthed at the amount of contributions given in just a short time.

A neighbour, Clare said: "Mel is such a lovely lady and this is such a lovely and friendly street that we were never going to sit back and do nothing.

"However, I have been overwhelmed with the responses. The doorbell has been worn out!

"We have had everything from the important essentials to games for her two children.

"We just want to see Mel back on her feet".

Mel’s two children attend Thameside Primary Academy and YT understands that the school has also organised collections for the family.
