Stanford-le-Hope 2nd XI – 208 all out
Old Southendians 2nd XI – 251-6
Stanford – 5 points
Old Souths – 20 points
SWITCHING from the timed format to 45 overs a side produced a high scoring encounter at Grove Road on Saturday. Stanford won the toss and opted to bowl first. A patient and well constructed 90 not out from opener Andy Wilks and a combative 64 from Gary Threadgold helped the away side to a healthy total of 251-6. Chris Sharp 3-43 off 9 overs was the pick of the Stanford attack. Nick Sharp picked up a brace of wickets and Jack Carter bowled well for his 1-35.
After tea Stanford got off to a positive start and were 40 without loss after just eight overs but an all too familiar flurry of wickets put Old Southendians firmly in control. Once again the experience of Chris Sharp (77) kept the homes side in the game but with the only other contributions coming from Alex Ellis (24) and the skipper, Drew Robinson (19), the game just got away from Stanford who were bowled out for 208 in the 41st over. Next week Stanford play Belhus in a Thurrock derby.
