THE HEAD of the Gateway Academy has set the record straight after it emerged that a student was found in possession of a knife.

On Sunday, YT reported that a thirteen-year-old girl had been fined after being found in possession of a bladed weapon at the Tilbury school.

On Wednesday, the Gateway Academy put a statement out on their website.

Kevin Sadler said: "We take these issues very seriously at the Gateway Academy and will act in accordance with our policy. On this occasion the student in question was referred to the Police and was permanently excluded from the Academy.

“We have never had a problem with knives at the Gateway Academy in the past, I will take the strongest action possible to protect our students and staff. The young person has forfeited her place at our school.”
