SEEVIC College Archaeology students will be given privileged access to Coalhouse Fort Park.
The brand-new A-Level Archaeology course, starting this September at Seevic, will work in partnership with the Coalhouse Fort Park, enriching the students’ curriculum experience.
The first cohort of Archaeology students at the College will have the chance to learn skills such as using surveying software and section and plan drawings – giving them first hand practical experience for their Skills & Methods unit.
Coalhouse Fort in Tilbury dates back to 1402, a unique site developed as a defensive position along the River Thames. It is a Scheduled Ancient Monument which has benefited recently from a Heritage Lottery Fund grant.
Hazel Sacco, Education Officer at Coalhouse Fort and a trained Archaeologist, said: “We are really looking forward to working with Seevic College and to giving the students a chance to experience such a wonderful site. The practical skills they will learn here will help them in their course and beyond.”
Jamie Spracklen, Archaeology and Classical Civilisation Tutor at Seevic College, said: “Working in partnership with Hazel will be an excellent opportunity for our young archaeologists to learn core skills such as site and landscape recording, direct from a professional working in the contemporary heritage sector.
“It will not only greatly help our students during their studies and exam preparation, but provide them with a wealth of volunteer and career opportunities.”
