A FEW weeks ago, YT took its place on the press bench at the meeting of the ruling Labour cabinet at Thurrock Council.
We could not help notice that a large number of UKIP councillors were in the gallery. As council boss, John Kent and his team went through the agenda, you could see many of the UKIP cllrs taking notes and watching with interest.
The next evening, the Thurrock Council planning meeting met. Once again, several UKIP councillors came in as a group and watched proceedings.
Some people believe that once UKIP activists are elected as councillors that their achilles heel is actually turning up to meetings. In Thurrock, it looks like quite the opposite.
The leader of Thurrock UKIP, Graham Snell said:
"Our turning up to these meetings is all about learning and supporting each other.
"When we were elected last year it was hard work with no support, so I am trying to make it a better experience for the new guys".
