UPDATE: Motorcyclist seriously injured after collision in New Road, Grays

UPDATE: 1330 hrs

POLICE have appealed for witnesses after a motorcyclist was seriously injured in a road crash at Grays.

The incident happened at the junction of New Road and Bridge Road (B189) shortly before 7pm on Friday June 26 when a black motorbike and red Mercedes car were in collision.

The motorcyclist, who is 27 and from Grays, suffered multiple injuries and was taken by air ambulance to the Royal London Hospital. His condition today (Saturday) was described as being critical.

Police arrested the car driver, a woman in her 60s from the Grays area, on suspicion of careless driving. She was bailed until October 10 pending further enquiries.

The road was closed for nearly five hours to enable forensic collision investigation work to be carried out and for recovery of the vehicles.

Any witnesses who have not yet contacted police or anyone who was in the area and has information about events leading to the collision, should contact officers at Chigwell road policing unit on 101.

ON A busy night in Grays, the Essex Air Ambulance has landed in Kilverts Field in Grays.

There has been a report of a road traffic incident involving a motorcycle, but his has not been confirmed.

Derby Road has been closed off between Grays Beach and the multi-story car park.

All emergency services are in attendance.
