Cricket: Thurrock fall to second defeat of the season

THURROCK lost their second game of the season at home to Springfield who ran out comfortable winners on a hot day at Blackshots.

Even though Thurrock posted a defendable score of 152, the hosts will be disappointed with that total where they were at least 50 runs short. Wicketkeeper Rhys Hymas top scored with 41 which included three maximums and Mark O’Neill made 37 before he and Hymas were both dismissed by Lee Brooks, who finished with 3-54 from his ten overs.

For Thurrock to have a chance of winning, they needed to take some early wickets. But Springfield were having none of it and they smashed the ball all around the ground at will. The runs were knocked off in just the 20th over, with the visitors winning easily by seven wickets. All the Thurrock bowlers took some damage, but Rob Neal was the pick of the bunch as he finished with 1-14.
