Thurrock CC 1st XI 233-9

By Bill West

THURROCK won their first game since the start of June with an easy victory by 91 runs away at mid-table Great Baddow.

The away side batted first and got off to a very poor start and at one stage were really struggling at 81-7. But thanks to the superb efforts from Andrew Hills (63), captain Matt Hills (53) and some late hitting from Umaad Sultan (22*) Thurrock ended up with 233 from their 45 overs, a great effort from a real bad position.

Great Baddow’s top order got plenty of scores in the 20s but none of the batsmen kicked on when required. It was a top bowling performance from the visitors, with Muhammad Rahim picking up four wickets, while Sultan, Andrew Hills and Clarke Wren got two each to cap a fine win that lifts Thurrock up to fourth in the Premier Division, 40 points behind leaders Old Chelmsfordians.
