THURROCK Education Awards are returning this November for the second year running following the success of the 2014 event.

The event will be held, once again, at the Backstage Centre, High House Production Park in Purfleet on Friday, 20 November.

Cllr John Kent, Council Leader and portfolio holder for education, said: “Last year’s event showed just how far Thurrock and its schools have come.

“The fact that hundreds of nominations were received shows we have a thriving education community and we are proud of our educational successes.”

He added: “Now I am encouraging everybody to make their nomination for the 2015 awards.

“Whether you’re a parent, a student, a teacher, a headteacher, governors, volunteer or even a neighbour, tell us – Who should we be celebrating?

“Let’s make this year’s task even more difficult for the judges.”

He said: “Last year we receive lots of late in the day nominations – some were too short and some lacked enough detail for the judges to properly consider.

“I’m pleased to announce that nominations are open now, leaving plenty of time before the closing date of 9 October.

Nominators are asked to include examples of: impact on achievement, attendance, engagement and enjoyment within departments and whole school, along with examples of ‘going the extra mile’.

Award category descriptions and nominations can be viewed and made through the Thurrock Council website – thurrock.gov.uk/education-awards
