LEIGH Nicholson, a planning team leader at Thurrock Council, has been highly commended at the RTPI Awards for Planning Excellence.
Leigh took the Young Planner of the Year award at the London Hilton on Monday, 6 July.
The awards are organised by the Royal Town Planning Institute to highlight exceptional examples of planning, and celebrate the contribution that planners make to society.
The judges recognised Leigh’s flair in helping to transform the planning application process from a paper-based system to a digital one. His redesign has speeded up the service so applications are allocated to planners digitally and acknowledgements can be sent to applicants within 48 hours.
Cllr Richard Speight, portfolio holder for planning and regeneration said: “It’s wonderful that Leigh’s talents, enthusiasm and leadership skills have been recognised by a professional body.
“He is helping to provide a faster and less costly planning service for Thurrock, which is now regarded as one of the most progressive in the country.”
