Tilbury residents given welcome cash boost

EARLIER this year residents at Lansbury Gardens sheltered housing complex in Tilbury had a shock when essential gas main work wrecked their garden.

On Monday (20 July), they received £200 worth of B&Q vouchers to help tidy the gardens again.

A joint scheme involving National Grid, Skanska and Morrisons Utilities – the “tRiiO” – is a 30-year programme to replace gas facilities within 30 metres of buildings. Earlier this year they began work at Lansbury Gardens.

Cllr Lynn Worrall, portfolio holder for housing and local ward councillor said: “The works took longer than expected, they were disruptive during the cold and wet winter months and they really tore through the gardens here on site.

“Residents here spend a lot of their time looking after the place – it’s their home and it’s obvious to anybody that visits how much they care for the grounds and gardens.

“So, it’s been nice to welcome officers from the scheme here to explain to the residents why the works had to happen and why it was more difficult here than at other sites.

“The maintenance work was essential for safety and the continued use of gas in the area.”

She said: “Now the residents can discuss and agree how they’d best like to spend the vouchers.”
