THURROCK UKIP have expressed their dismay that another Thurrock landmark has been demolished.

On Thursday, Benton’s Farm in Mollands Lane was demolished in South Ockendon despite an eight year campaign to save it.

Ockendon Concern Residents Action Group said: "Local residents are incredibly disappointed that an Ockendon landmark that has stood there since the 17th centenary has been destroyed."

Cllr Kevin Wheeler and Chris Baker said: "We would like to thank the Ockendon Concern Residents Action Group (OCRAG) and residents who have supported the campaign for over 8 years to save it.

"It is sad that Thurrock Council allowed planning permission to knock down a building that previously had listed status.

"We will continue to help those in the community like us that want to protect our heritage in South Ockendon for generations to come.

"We have both lived in Ockendon all of our lives and are sad to see the building destroyed."
