A CHARITY afternoon was held on August 6th in aid of The Jane Packer Foundation.

She was a florist who had a brilliant eye for colour and texture. By promoting her ideas she did flowers for magazines, fashion houses, Sarah Ferguson’s wedding and invented the raffia tied bouquet.

She was copied world-wide and is credited with why department stores, shops, stalls and many other establishments all have magnificent displays of flowers to buy.

She was born in Chadwell St. Mary and died of a brain tumour in 2011 aged 52. The Foundation has been set up to help provide funds for research.

A spokesperson said: "We were very pleased to welcome teams from all over Thurrock to our charity day.

"Everyone had a very enjoyable afternoon which included a cream tea.

    About £400 was raised.
