CIVIL war has broken out in Thurrock Labour over the selection of the candidate for the West Thurrock and South Stifford By-Election.
On Monday night, Cliff Holloway was selected to fight the ward left vacant by the surprise resignation of Terry Brookes.
This has not pleased a number of activists who feel have told YT that they would have put their names forward had they have known.
A number of the activists have told YT that they see this as a "behind closed doors" deal.
Mr Holloway, an ardent union man and the father of West Thurrock and South Stifford councillor, Victoria Holloway.
Speaking to YT, Scott Nelson said: "I have lodged a complaint with the regional party. I know of a number of other activists who also feel the same.
"Some of us have worked very hard over the last year to support the party. I certainly won’t be campaigning in this by-election."
YT understands that the process to select Mr Holloway was the same one that Labour has used in all previous by-elections over the past few years.
The by-election is set for Thursday September 10th.
