A LADY from Grays completed the Tough Mudder challenge in Birmingham at Broughton Hall to raise money for the hospice which is caring for a friend’s daughter.
Leeann Stanley, 38 from Grays, visited Little Havens Hospice in Thundersley on 30th July to present the money she raised by completing the 10 mile Tough Mudder obstacle course on Wednesday 20th May. The challenge saw her take on a series of water obstacles and elevations over a muddy course, testing her physical strength and mental grit. Leeann who is a branch director at Santander Ilford, successfully applied for a £5,000 grant from her community foundation in support of her fundraising for the hospice. In total Leeann has so far raised £6,600 which is expected to rise as some of her fundraising efforts will be match funded by her company. All donations will be going to Little Havens, the hospice which is caring for her friend’s daughter Milly Crocombe, to purchase a wheelchair accessible roundabout.
Leeann who is a friend of Gemma Crocombe, Millie’s mum, was so inspired by Milly that she decided she wanted to do something to support Little Havens. Leeann said, “I really enjoyed taking part in Tough Mudder for Little Havens. It was tough and I got covered in mud – but it was worth it to know that my efforts will help support children like Milly who remains such an inspiration to me. Visiting Little Havens means that I was able to see first-hand what an amazing and inspiring place it is. I’m going to make every effort to reach my £10,000 target so Little Havens can purchase their special roundabout that the children will really benefit from.”
Jane Harwood, Play Specialist at Little Havens, said, “Leeann has made a fantastic contribution in raising money for Little Havens. Hearing that Leeann is committed to continue her fundraising until she reaches the £10,000 total needed is brilliant news. We plan to put the donation towards the purchase of a new wheelchair accessible roundabout to enable more children who visit Little Havens to have even more fun in our gardens. The hospice can only exist because of the support and generosity of people like Leeann, who we are eternally grateful for. I wish her the very best of luck with future fundraising.”
