Thurrock CC 1st XI 70-10
Bentley CC 1st XI 140-10
By Bill West
THURROCK lost their first game since the first week of July against Premier Division leaders Bentley.
A win would have given Thurrock a chance of winning the league on the last day of the season, but in the end fell 70 runs short. However, they got off to the perfect start as the visitors were bowled out for just 140. Umar Ayub (4-19), Muhammad Rahim (3-28) and Dean Henry (2-20) all bowled excellently to give Thurrock a great chance of winning this vital game.
In reply, Thurrock struggled from the very start and couldn’t sustain any partnerships of substance. Umar Ayub backed up his bowling exploits and top scored with 30, Clarke Wren made 15 and Shameer Qureshi 10, but everyone else was out for single figures as the hosts ended up 70 runs adrift. Michael Clark and Matt Doran took four wickets apiece for the visitors.
Thurrock will look to finish their season on a high note away at Springfield on Saturday.
