UKIP MEP and Aveley councillor, Tim Aker has slammed Thurrock MP Jackie Doyle-Price after she has taken up a position as a whip in the government.
The promotion means Ms Doyle-Price may not speak on the floor of the House of Commons.
Cllr Tim Aker MEP said: "Congratulations to Jackie on becoming the assistant whip to the department of paper clips.
"I’m sure however many residents will be annoyed so soon after the election our MP has given up defending the interests of Thurrock.
"Her response to the Biomass plant in West Thurrock is quite something. She was all too willing to wade into planning matters before the election, now afterwards we just get excuses that ‘I have no role in the decision making process’ despite on her website claiming she is there ‘to represent the interests and concerns of all the people who live in their constituency’.
"It is an MP’s business to make themselves part of the process when a potential development hits the standard of living of the people. I would move heaven and earth if the people of Thurrock wanted me to.
"Will her new position prompt silence when Thurrock faces a potential new river crossing and more congestion on our roads?"
"UKIP will always defend the interests of the people of Thurrock. We will never forget that the people are in charge and the people come first."
Ms Doyle-Price is unavailable for comment.
