ONE of the staff team at CVS joined the group Humanity Washed Ashore at the beginning of September.
It is a group set up by a mum in Southend, who was so moved by the sad picture of the small child washed up on a beach in Greece that she felt she needed to do something, however small to help the plight of the mothers and children caught up in the crisis. She put out an appeal to ask if anyone could donate children’s clothing, blankets, books and toys and was overwhelmed by the response, which created its own problem, how to get the items to where they were needed.
A spokesperson for CVS said: "Step up James Circus Owner/Director of Estuary Logistics in South Ockendon, who having heard of the appeal offered at his own cost to provide a container and cover the cost of shipping.
Having seen that it was a local business that had stepped up, it was noted that we didn’t have a collection point in Thurrock, so The Beehive Resource Centre offered to be a collection/drop off point. At a time when there are difficulties being suffered by so many, It was a truly amazing response with people walking into The Beehive with bags and boxes and asking “is this where I need to drop off the children’s clothes?” .
In just a week, we collected and sorted over 49 large black sacks of clothing, toys, shoes and blankets (a special thank you goes to our Mayor, Sue Grey who donated 2 boxes of knitted baby blankets, (her needles were working at double speed!!). A further 10 large black sacks full of clothing were collected from a group in Stanford Le Hope started by Graham and Rachel, who were collecting consumables for refugees in Calais.
Part of the donations taken to The Beehive on their way Donations from other areas to Estuary Logistics at South Ockendon. waiting to be sorted by volunteers
"We at The Beehive have been humbled by people’s generosity and are very proud of the Thurrock communities who responded to the appeal with such compassion and enthusiasm; a big thank you from everyone needs to go to local businessmen James Circus, without his generosity and kindness this would have been a harder job.
Pallets of clothing and toys already sorted and
The first delivery being loaded and on its waiting for despatch to Malta and Hungary.
Well done Thurrock for your contribution to one mums cause!!
