Veteran soldiers enjoy fishing task at the Warren

LAST Wednesday saw the second group of military veterans experiencing PTSD turn up at the Warren fishery where they would camp out until Friday afternoon.

Essex University & Anglia Ruskin University are running a long term study into finding ways of integrating these veterans back into society and is headed by Psychology PhD Researcher (University of Essex) Mark Wheeler.

This was a larger turnout than the first fish in and part of the main lake plus the square lake were given over to the veterans

After setting up all their bivvies and assembling their tackle the veterans settled down for their first overnighter. Weather conditions were much better than the previous event and within 2 hours Alex Shields hooked and landed a superb common carp weighing 28lb .

This was one of the biggest carp landed from the Warren that week. To celebrate Alex went into the water with the fish to release it.

The next hour saw Alex have a day to remember when he landed another huge common weighing 26lb. The rest of the session saw the rest of the veterans catch steadily with around 50 carp being caught ranging from 8-21lb

A very successful venture and more are planned for next year
