Ruislip 17 v 36 Thurrock
RUISLIP has never been a happy hunting ground for Thurrock including last year when losing three key players to long term injury, however this season the visitors ensured there would be no repeat.
Ruislip started well as it took a while for Thurrock to settle, but in their very first attack Freddie Russo made a break down the blind and fed his brother Charlie who exploded through the cover defence to score, Tom Worsfold added the conversion. Thurrock now had the confidence and looked dangerous in attack and the home side frailty showed as James Flavin crashed over under the posts, Worsfold again adding the conversion.
Ruislip then had their best spell of the game, with Thurrock giving away far too many penalties, they shunned an easy three points to kick to the corner, the first catch and drive was not successful but they had a further attempt and this time it proved to be the right decision with a converted try. The score stayed that way until the break, and Thurrock started to dominate the game up the hill the introduction of new prop Charlie Currie gave Thurrock some extra forward power and No8 Bradleigh Retigan used his strength to score under the posts, Worsfold added the conversion.
Ruislip though did not lay down and clawed a score back with an unconverted try, but
Thurrock again stepped up a gear and Hagen Mumba sprinted over to secure a bonus point with a well worked try the conversion was just wide. The home side kept chipping away and scored a further try from a catch and drive, but the last 10 minutes Thurrock looked comfortable, Jake Barrand added a drop goal and then second row Andy Nimmo went over for a well-deserved try after his excellent hard working display, Barrand then added the conversion to give the visitors a well-earned win.
