OVER hundred runners converged on Orsett Heath on Saturday morning for the first Thurrock parkrun.
A park run is a 5k run/jog/walk held every Saturday morning. There are thousands held all over the world and now Thurrock has joined the parkrun family.
The Thurrock parkrun was the brainchild of community champion Trevor Rawson and his team of volunteers. Without Trevor this event would never have taken place.
The race was started by deputy leader of Thurrock Council, cllr Barbara Rice who has been an advocate for public health in Thurrock.
The course is two laps around Orsett Heath. The course starts on the grass at Heath Road and is all on grass. It is very well marshalled.
The run was won by Ilford AC’s Malcolm Muir in 17.16. First woman home was Tri-Sports Epping’s Natalie Longman in 22.15.
There were 113 finishers.
Remember you need to register (for free) before you can run.
