Football: Bentley’s aces find their rhythm again for Grays

Ryman Premier

Grays Ath 4 v 0 Lewes

GRAYS Athletic found their winning touch again with a 4-0 victory against Lewes at Mill Field.

Grays got off to the perfect start in the 3rd minute when Jake Hutchins nodded in at close range from a corner.

Boss Mark Bentley had rung the changes and backed himself in midfield as Grays looked intent on arresting the recent decline in the league.

Lewes have struggled this season but have an impressive workrate with Muggeridge and Laing working hard up front.

In the 19th minute, Dumebi Dumaka’s header went wide after great work down the left from Joao Carlos.

Grays football looked a little bit more direct than of late as if they may have recognised that it may not suit all games in the Ryman Premier.

Things got worse for Lewes when right back and former Blue Jordan Wilson was sent off for fouling Dumebi Dumaka.

In the 30th minute, Dumaka made Lewes really pay when he scored after neat individual play in the box.

Grays were producing fluent, controlled football and it was no surprise when Dumaka rose high in the box to head home at the far post to make it 3-0.

Dumaka was starting to look unplayable and it is no wonder that scouts have come calling.

Lewes first chance did not come until the 43rd minute when a header went over the bar.

Lewes looked not to "lose" the second half and so the first part of the second half was a fairly turgid affair.

Grays were working hard with Michael-Percil making a number of darting runs in he box.

He was replaced by Alex Addai who really impressed with his speed and movement.

James Stevens made it 4-0 in the 84th minute when he played a lovely one-two and thumped the ball into the back of the net.

Grays will now look to the visit of National Premier side Welling in the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup next weekend.
