Thurrock Film Festival ends on high note

THE Thurrock International Film Festival ran its fourth event over the weekend at the Thameside Theatre.

With filmmakers coming from far and wide to attend and network with each other, as well as local people flocking to attend the feature film screenings.

Filmmakers from as far as The Netherlands and Israel enjoyed the short film screenings and awards ceremony where the lucky winning films were rewarded with their trophy.

Local filmmaker James Kavanagh won Best Music Video for ‘Hang With The Happiness’, a song by local musician Tall Dark Friend. The song was the fifth from she has had featured in the festival since it’s beginning.

Parents and children flocked to see The Little Mermaid on the big screen and sing with a real mermaid! Parents were able to show their children the film in the cinema as they had seen it in their own childhood.

“The festival was a success as everyone who attended had positive things to say about it…” says organizer Ben Scarsbrook, “For future events we would like to see more local people in the audience so before the next festival we will be looking at how we can make the festival even more tailored to Thurrock.”

“Film festivals aren’t full of strange films, with snooty film buffs. The short films we show are amazing and just like the films on at Vue just shorter, the filmmakers who attend are friendly and open people who are happy to talk about their film.”

The film festival will return in 2017 for its fifth outing, and the organisers say that there is no doubt that the Thameside Theatre will be the venue. “The Thameside is the most amazing venue, not just in terms of facilities for us but also the expertise of the staff. They are consummate professionals and we have had nothing but success there. We are aware of the ‘not fit for purpose’ report and will be following its progress with great interest.” Says organizer Natalie Scarsbrook.
