Hockey: Mens’ seconds win away at Witham

Men’s 1’s 2 v 1 Redbridge and Ilford

East Men’s League. Division 7 southeast.

Havering 4th team v Thurrock men’s 2nd team.

Thurrock won 5-0.

Thurrock completely dominated this game against Havering, with keeper Dave Leeks only making 1 good touch in open play. Thurrock struggled initially to convert their dominance, but once Liam Birch opened the scoring Havering were constantly on the back foot, a good all round display from all the Thurrock players.

Birch’s 2nd made it 2-0 at half time, then 2 more goals early in the second half have him a personal and team total of 4 for the game. Substitutions slowed the flow of the game down, but Jordan Salmon capped off a strong performance with his 2nd goal of the season to complete the scoring for the day. Thurrock sit 3rd behind two unbeaten promoted side who they play in the next few weeks.



Thurrock started strongly in this East Div 9SE game and forced the visitors to defend in numbers with Michael Fleming being unlucky to see his shot go inches wide after dribbling into the area leaving a string of defenders in his wake. A rare attack mid way through the first half led to a shot which crept over the line. Five minutes later an East London short corner added to their score.

In the second half Thurrock opted for close marking to prevent East London gaining any advantage and cut out a series of potential attacks. Gradually Thurrock made progress and pushed East London into defence. Thurrock were awarded a series of penalty corners but the visitors held on to their lead and retain their place at the top of the league.


Ladies 1’s playing Wapping with a severely depleted team due to injury, holidays lost 12-0.


Ladies 2’s this week with a 11-0 win away to Basildon . Scoring 6 goals in the first half then finishing the second half with the well deserving 5 goals . Goal scorers this week Sally Willet 6 Sally Taylor 2 Tracey Martin 1 Louisa Harrison 1 and Sarah Judd 1 .


Thurrock Ladies 3rds. 0 Witham 5

The ladies played only their 2 nd game of the season after struggling to field a team.

Despite tireless work from the defence Thurrock found themselves 3-0 down at half time. CHLOE BRADY did break down many of the attacks and the team was disappointed to lose her controlling presence at half time.

The 2 nd half proved to be equally demanding but the back line of Laura Reynolds, Viv Thomas and Alice KITTLE worked well To thwart the attack.

Player of the match was Katie Lawrence who covered so much of the pitch and did break down so many moves from the Witham team
