The Tilbury Health Crisis: Needs 14 extra GPs now..but will they get them?

THE future of health provision in Tilbury was discussed at a public meeting in the town on Tuesday (20 October) evening.

Representatives from NHS England, Thurrock Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), Thurrock Council and Thurrock Healthwatch made a number of presentations and then listened to the concerns of the less than 20 members of the public that attended.

In England (on average) a GP is responsible for 1,321 patients; Thurrock’s average is 2,071 (750 more); and practices in Tilbury range from 2,338 (1,017 more) and 6,962 (5,641 more than the England average).

There was a very informative presentation by Thurrock Council’s director of public health, Ian Wake, whose key messages included the fact that Tilbury needs close to 14 more GPs.

YT filmed the whole meeting. His presentation comes at the 1hr and 30 min part of the two hour film.
