Football: East Thurrock stroll to victory against South Park

FA Trophy 1st Qualifying Round

East Thurrock United 4 v 0 South Park

EAST Thurrock United coasted to a comfortable victory at home in the first qualifying round of the FA Trophy, brushing aside South Park at Rookery Hill reports the Thurrock Enquirer.

East Thurrock dominated the first half and as good as guaranteed their progress, going in 3-0 up at the break.

Lewis Smith opened the scoring in the third minute, with a close range volley at the back post, from an inch-perfect cross by Tom Wraight.

Mitchell Gilbey then doubled the lead on eight minutes, heading in at the back post, from a cross by Ryan Sammons.

There was a multitude of opportunities for East Thurrock to extend their lead, but due to some poor finishing and fortune it took 25 minutes to find the third goal. This came by way of a corner, where Ryan Scott latched onto the ball and slotted home from a couple of yards out.

South Park did improve after the break but the best they could manage was to plug the leak for the majority of the half, as they never really threatened in front of goal and the hosts defended comfortably throughout.

Substitute Harry Honesty eventually made it 4-0 two minutes from time, striking from 8 yards after some impressive hold up play and a good pass by Walker.

Mitchell Gilbey, James Walker and Tom Wraight all had chances to add to the goal tally, but were denied by some last-ditch defending, a couple of great saves and the crossbar.
