Charity event is a cup of tea for Thurrock Mayor

THE MAYOR of Thurrock held an afternoon tea at the Purfleet Heritage Centre in aid of local charities.

The event, which included several local mayors and the High Sherriff of Essex also included a tour of the local area in a 1939-era bus, a walk around the Heritage Centre followed by tea and cakes.

The mayor, Cllr Sue Gray, also organised a raffle to raise additional funds with prizes were donated by local businesses.

Cllr Gray said: "I would like to thank everyone for coming and taking part, especially the mayors and chairs of local councils."

She added: "The Mayor of Rochford donated, but was unable to come and I would like to thank all the local businesses who supported the event, particularly Procter & Gamble for their hamper."

The event raised £100 for the Purfleet Heritage Centre and over £300 for the mayor’s chosen charity The Thurrock Community Chest.
