Hockey: Praise for Jackie as she is awarded Jack Petchey Award

Thurrock Hockey Club recently presented two Jack Petchey Awards.

The Jack Petchey Leader Award was achieved by the Thurrock Hockey Club Chairman, Jacki Milne. Jacki began playing for the club when she was at school and for much of the time played in goal.

Throughout more than 35 years in the club she has held a number of posts which were often involved with the youth of the club. She has captained most of the ladies teams and managed the youth teams, both girls and boys.

She was a qualified coach and the manager of the Essex U19 squad for 2 years. During this time she was a member of the Essex Hockey Committee.

She is a qualified umpire giving up every Saturday to umpire men’s and ladies teams. These teams have many under 25’s playing and Jacki makes sure that fair play is carried out and the young people are supported to rise through the teams to the achieve their full potential.

During her time at the club Jacki has been very involved in encouraging the young people to achieve their goals. She is a strong chairman and leader who takes the lead on all issues and always knows what is happening at all levels on the men’s, ladies and youth sections of the club. She is committed to developing our mini and youth sections and encourages contact with local schools. Players know she is approachable and that she will do everything she can to ensure they play the best hockey possible. She is working hard to try to find sponsorship to improve the clubhouse facilities for all members and to promote the club.

The Jack Petchey Achievement Award was presented to 15 year old Callum Harvey. Callum began playing hockey in our mini section. He shows excellent hockey potential and has made fast progress to play regularly with the Men’s 2nd team. He has had some games with the first eleven. He is committed to improving his skills and attends training regularly.
